Given space

Beto Espitia

Spiritual director

Welcome fellow traveler

Connecting with fellow spiritual seekers is one of life's greatest honors. As we navigate our individual journeys, it's easy to feel lost amid life's stresses. Join me in conversation, as we give space to what The Eternal One is whispering to us.

"Spiritual direction provides an “address” on the house of your life so that you can be “addressed” by God in prayer. When this happens, your life begins to be transformed in ways you hadn’t planned or counted on, for God works in wonderful and surprising ways."

Spiritual Direction: Wisdom for the Long Walk of Faith

40 minute sessions

The first three Spiritual Direction sessions are free of charge. This will allow you to see if this is the right fit. The goal is to meet once a month. I look forward to meeting you in person or virtually.

What is spiritual direction?

Spiritual direction is a relationship of sacred listening. Think of it as walking with a compassionate companion who offers a safe, steady place to explore your faith, your questions, and the deeper movements of your life. It isn’t counseling, advice‑giving, or problem‑solving. Instead, it’s a practice that helps you slow down and become more aware of the Creator’s presence and invitations. For centuries, Christians across many traditions have turned to spiritual direction as a way to stay attentive to God. People often come because they feel a longing for something more—sometimes a vague restlessness, sometimes a clear desire to reconnect with God in a particular area of life.

In spiritual direction, there are two people: the director (or spiritual companion) and the directee. The director’s role is not to “direct” your life but to hold space with you. They listen more than they speak, ask gentle and honest questions, and welcome silence as part of the process. Their posture is one of curiosity, humility, and trust in God’s work. The conversation unfolds slowly and reflectively. Together, you look for signs of God’s movement—comfort, challenge, clarity, or invitation. Over time, spiritual direction helps you grow in awareness, discernment, and a deeper sense of connection with God in the everyday rhythms of your life.

Adapted and paraphrased from Renovaré

I’m the youngest of three, born to Indigenous Mexican immigrants who made California home. Growing up in the ’70s, I straddled cultures—telenovelas and The Brady Bunch, Pedro Infante and Steely Dan, Grandma’s tacos and Happy Meals. Those contrasts shaped my curiosity about how people live, love, and believe.Today, I’m in San Jose, designing user experiences in healthcare. Outside work, I’m a husband, dad to three grown kids, and a trail runner. I also serve as a Partner at The River Church Community, leading a small group and engaging in justice initiatives. My faith journey began early with a love for Yeshua. Over time, I’ve learned that doubt and longing aren’t enemies of faith but companions. Spiritual Direction has become a grounding space for me—a way to listen and rest in God’s presence. Trained with Sustainable Faith, I now accompany others on their spiritual journeys.
If any part of my story resonates, I’d love to offer a free session.
